Now in its 5th year, the Leicester Design Season embraces the power of the design community, with exhibitions, talks and workshops–promoting creativity, craft, education and business.
In partnership with Some Bright Spark, we developed a living identity for the event, placing creativity in the hands of the design community to truly capture the spirit of the season.
Democratising design
Make developed an online design tool which handed the creation of the identity to the community–easily accessible to all.
Through an intuitive set of tools and controls, users were given the freedom to create their own unique artwork built of the same base set of components.
A celebration of design
From educational programmes and talks to workshops and exhibitions, at the heart of the Design Season is a core spirit of creativity. Capturing this spirit and placing it in the hands of all who interacted with the Season really allowed us to create an identity which truly reflected the essence of this annual event.
How it worked
Users were able to manipulate in real-time, motion idents unified in form but with the freedom to create radically different expressions. Through colour controls, image filters and a library of graphic and video assets, users were give full creative control.
To take it a step further, users were also able to upload their graphics for patterns and typography, to truly own their creations.
Making it sharable
Once happy with their creation, users could easily name and download it to their desktop or device. Downloads were optimised in both format and file size for sharing socially and spreading the word about the Season.
A copy of their creation was also sent to the cloud, which was easily accessible by the event organisers to use across an array of applications across the event, both on and offline.
Hundreds of designers
The living logos concept proved very popular amongst the community, with hundreds of submissions pouring in, helping to really put the focus on who Season is for–the people.
